about

When Zig Zag Birds first flickered into life on YouTube in 2011, they barely gave a thought to playing live. For their first performances to rapturous London crowds, the band wrote new tunes, as well as rummaging around in their back catalogues – and soon found themselves itching to record again.

Old New Borrowed Blue, their second release, is a bouquet of love songs in the classic tradition of sunshine pop. From new member Woody Lewenstein’s exhilarating I Wish I Was Dreaming Of You to bittersweet closer The Saddest Good News, these tracks explore four different stages in the life cycle of a relationship. With lush arrangements that mix Zig Zag Birds’ distinctive vocal harmonies with British Invasion guitars and a Chicago-style horn section, the results are hard to resist.

London's David Rael, Edward Randell and Woody Lewenstein write fun, infectious original songs with a nod to days of old. The result is a downright irresistible sound, packed with lush harmonies, bouncy brass and endlessly hummable tunes. ... more
